In the summer of 1998 I started building a little house on Drummond Island in the U.P. of MI.Drummond Island is the 8th largest Island in North America.
I am still working on the house, but most of it is finished. We call the house, "the fish house"

Advice for building your own cabin.
1) Build your pole barn, garage or outbuilding first. That way you have someplace to store all the equipment and tools before you build the main house.
2) Build it bigger than you think you are going to need. If I had to do mine over, I'd build it bigger. My footprint is only 24x20.
3) nail guns. the only way to go.
4) Building a house is work hard. But you also must take time off to fish, explore, play. The reason you got the house is to relax and enjoy the outdoors, so be sure your not all work and no play.
