DRUMMOND MAY 2005

SPRING MAY 2005

This spring I found numerous eggshells all over the shore. I looked in my trusty Sibley bird book and I'm pretty sure they are Cormorant eggs . Cormorants are all over the shoal by the fish house.

Here is a little something about Cormorants:

Often seen flying in a "V" formation. Often roost in large groups in trees near water. Catches fish by swimming with wings held at its side. (I have seen this many times). To dry off they strike an erect pose with wings outstretched facing the sun. Their name refers to the nearly invisible crest on thier heads. Cormorant comes from the Latin word "corvus" meaning "crow" and "L. marinus," meaning "pertaining to the sea" Literally, "SEA CROW"

On the island cormorants are not liked because they eat a lot of fish. The thought is, the cormorants have depleted perch fishing around the island. Cormorants eat other fish too.

DRUMMOND NOVEMBER 2004

DRUMMOND 2004 A WET NOVEMBER

It was a wet November.
This trip, I stained all the joists, stairway area, Beams, nooks and crannys with a sage color.
A nice contrast to the cedar tongue and groove.
